HOW TO USE LINKEDIN FOR BUSINESS
The first thing you need to do on LinkedIn is making a page for your business.
STEP 1: CREATE A USER ACCOUNT FOR YOURSELF
To use LinkedIn, you must first create a personal account. This person will also be in charge of your Company
Page (although you can add additional Page managers later). I recommend using your work email address
while signing up.
STEP 2: CREATE A LINKEDIN COMPANY PAGE
Okay, now we can start working on your Page. After you've logged in, go to the top right of your browser and
click the Work icon. Choose to Create a Company Page from the bottom of the menu that appears.
Choose the right type of Page from the four available options:
Small business
Medium to large business
Showcase page
Educational institution
STEP 3: OPTIMIZE YOUR PAGE
Okay, now that you've covered the basics, it's time to optimize your new Page in order to gain traction and
grow your following.
To begin, go to the bottom of the page and click the blue Edit Page icon.
Fill in all of the fields in this section for extra information. This can help users understand what you do and
improve your LinkedIn SEO (a.k.a. showing up in search results). It's well worth the effort: Companies with
detailed profiles receive 30% more views.
A FEW LINKEDIN PAGE OPTIMIZATION TIPS
Use Translations
Add Keywords In Your Description
Add Hashtags
Add A Branded Cover Image
And Finally: Add A CTA Button
STEP 4: BUILD YOUR PAGE FOLLOWING
Unless you inform them, no one will know your Page exists.
You'll see this frankly adorable illustration of a marketer wearing sweats in serious discussion with their dog
about this quarter's—wait a minute, that's me... until you start posting content.
Here are 4 ways to get your new Page some love:
1. Share It
2. Link To It From Your Website
3. Ask Employees To Update Their Profiles
4. Send Invitations To Follow
STEP 5: EXECUTE YOUR LINKEDIN MARKETING STRATEGY
Isn't it true that you have a LinkedIn marketing strategy?
The easy part is making a Page. The hard part, unless you have a plan, is keeping it going with content that
your audience wants.
Answers to the following questions should be included in your LinkedIn social media strategy:
- What will you use your Page for? Recruiting? Lead generation? Sharing the super nerdy industry stuff
that doesn’t perform as well on Instagram or Facebook?
- Are you going to advertise? What is your LinkedIn ads budget?
- What are your competitors doing on LinkedIn, and how can you create better content?
Lastly, make a content plan:
How often will you post?
What topics will you cover?
How can you repurpose existing content to use on LinkedIn?
Are you going to curate content from others?
